“I love this hometown we call Cedar City. It’s a place where faith, family, hard work, and community still matter. As we grow, we must do so with wisdom and heart—guided by the values that make America great and small towns like ours even greater. I’m proud to stand with you, and I’m committed to preserving what makes Cedar City home.”

For over 54 years, Cedar City has been my home. I’ve seen this community grow, evolve, and thrive—thanks to the strength of its people, values, and potential. For the past 8 years, I’ve been honored to help guide our city toward a brighter future. Much progress has been made, but our work is far from finished.
I’m humbled by the trust you’ve placed in me to carry your voice into decisions that shape the future of our city. As I ask for your support, I am ready to leave a lasting legacy for our children and grandchildren—a Cedar City where every family can work, live, and play in a thriving, connected community.
From leading the Tony Award-winning Utah Shakespeare Festival to decades of service in civic, educational and cultural leadership, I’ve always worked to elevate our community. I’m prepared to continue to bring my experience, heart, and vision to the City Council.
Let’s meet the challenges of growth with unity, purpose, and bold action. Together, we will create a Cedar City that honors our past and paves the way for a brighter tomorrow.

More About Scott

I was raised in a small rural town in southern Nevada and grew up with six brothers and sisters. From the humble surroundings of my youth, our home was always bathed in love and faith by my caring parents and grandparents. My parents always taught us the value of connecting to those around you and making sure we were available to offer help to those in need. I worked myself through college attending Southern Utah State College (SUU) graduating with a double major in Business Administration and Theatre Arts.

I have worked over 50 years in the marketing, and entertainment industry. After 40 years of working for the Utah Shakespeare Festival, I retired as its Executive Director in 2017. As the chief executive officer of the Festival, I was responsible for articulating and implementing the organization’s vision and mission (plus raising money). During the final years of my career with the USF, I worked closely with Fred C. Adams and others to raise over $40M to complete the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Center for the Arts in Cedar City, which opened in July 2016.

After retiring from the USF in 2017, I searched for new avenues to serve this community and region. I decided to run for local political office and was elected to the Cedar City Council in 2017. I am currently completing my second term and am now running for re-election.

Currently I am serving as the co-chair on the Iron County America 250 Celebration Steering Committee.

I have been fortunate to be recognized over the years with numerous awards for my commitment to greater civic and cultural engagement. I am the recipient of the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from The Shakespeare Theatre Association, the Volunteer of Year Award from the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce-twice, a Pillar of the Community Award from Utah Humanities Council, the Mark Sumner Outdoor Drama Lifetime Achievement Award, a Friend of Utah Award, and the Outstanding Staff Member Award of Southern Utah University--to mention a few.

I received my BA from Southern Utah University and continued my MA in Theatre Administration at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho. I enjoy, gardening, theatre, travel and supporting many non-profits and civic & community engagement projects across the state of Utah.
